A 6-year-old boy died after a large video display board reportedly fell on him Wednesday at Riviera Elementary School in Palm Bay, Florida.
School staff called 911 and gave the boy first aid before emergency crews arrived, Palm Bay police Deputy Chief Nick Szczepanski said. His family identified him as Bellamy Dawkins-Morris. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Szczepanski described the death as an apparent accident, but said detectives were investigating. Police and Brevard Public Schools have not explained how the board fell. Bellamy’s family said he was moving it when it tipped over.
District superintendent Mark Rendell said he had met with Bellamy’s family. Bellamy’s great-aunt, Miriam Rodriguez, called for answers about what happened.
